On December 17, 2016, representatives of the Armenian Community of the Greater Montreal Area gathered at the Diocesan Headquarters to participate in the Annual Christmas Reception offered by His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimyan, Primate.
His Grace Bishop Ararat Kaltakjian, member of the Brotherhood of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin honored the reception with his presence and conveyed pontifical greetings from His Holiness Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians to the guests.
His Grace opened the evening with a prayer and welcomed and thanked the guests for joining the evening. In his address, the Primate evaluated the outgoing year and expressed his appreciation towards all the volunteers, supporters and donors who have been diligently contributing to the prosperity and success of the Armenian Church and the Canadian Armenian community at large.
Dr. Archavir Gundjian on behalf of the community highly appreciated various initiatives of the Diocese in the religious, interfaith, humanitarian, educational and other spheres.
Mr. Harout Chitilian, City Councillor, Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the City of Montreal, and Mrs. Mary Deros, City Councillor of Montreal, on behalf of His Worship Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montreal, thanked the Primate for the activities that the Diocese has undertaken for welcoming the Syrian refugees and shared with the audience the City Hall’s initiatives for the 375th anniversary of Montreal.
During the reception, executives of the Diocesan Children’s Fund for Armenia – Mrs. Marguerite Kazarian, Mrs. Shushan Arisyan, Mrs. Diana Bogosyan, Mrs. Anita Hyrapet, Mrs. Taline Tanashian, Mrs. Houri Hakimian, Mrs. Hilda Tursucu, and Mrs. Mirna Balian were awarded by the Primate with the Diocesan Medal of Honor.
