On Saturday April 21, 2012, the St. Vartan Armenian Church of Mississauga and ARS Mississauga Aragast chapter hosted the annual Armenian Genocide Commemoration event at Port Credit cenotaph in Mississauga city. Many parishioners from across the Peel and Halton regions and parts of the Greater Toronto Area gathered to honour both the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide and the brave Canadian soldiers who fought in the First World War.

Gathered around the memorial statue, attendees were able to pray together during a brief requiem service led by Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian and the deacons of the St. Vartan Armenian Church of Mississauga. Notable guests included Mr. Brad Butt, Member of Parliament for Mississauga–Streetsville and Mrs. Jane McKenna, Member of Provincial Parliament for Burlington. Mr. Butt conveyed the official message on behalf of the Prime Minister of Canada, while Mrs. McKenna delivered very heartfelt sentiments on the solemn occasion.

Together, side by side with our elected representatives, we stand vigilant in our fight for genocide awareness and our commitment to the sacred values of faith, peace, compassion and mutual-respect. We will never forget 1915.

On Sunday, April 22, 2012, Divine Liturgy held in Oakvile by Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian and a special requiem service for the souls of more than 1.5 million Armenian victims.

After the sermon Fr. Myron specially thanked Saro Khatchadourian for his devoted support to St. Vartan Armenian Parish and wished him success in his new position at the Parliament building in Ottawa.

Following the Divine Liturgy a special presentation and slide show was held by Raffi Bedrosyan who presented the Armenian Churches in Turkey and the re-opening ceremony of St. Giragos Church of Dikranagerd. Some poems related to the Armenian Genocide were performed by Mrs. Sirarpi Ajemyan.
