Palm Sunday – The beautiful Palm Sunday Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Archpriest Sarkis Gulyan, who was invited specially to celebrate with the Armenian Parish of Mississauga. The traditional procession took place at the end of the Divine Liturgy accompanying altar servers and Sunday school children.
Following the Divine Liturgy the St.Vartan Sunday School and Armenian Camp youth hosted the 5th Annual Armenian Café on the occasion of Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday has traditionally been a Sunday for the youth and to keep with that tradition the youth of our parish continue to host the adults every year by serving them Armenian treats. The children look forward to this day when they can wear their red, blue and orange aprons and stand behind the long red, blue and orange tables to serve boeregs, choereg, vospee kuftee, dolma, yogurt tan drink, and even Armenian flag cookies. The afternoon was also filled with DVD presentations of the local Armenian camps – St.Vartan Day camp (July 11 to 15, 2011) and Ararat Overnight Camp (August 22 to 26, 2011).
The campers and counsellors have a great reunion as they work together to host an event, giving a much deserved break to the adult organizers of the parish. It’s truly a win-win endeavour. All the yummy treats are happily and generously donated by the children’s mothers and grandmothers. The smile on the youth’s faces as they proudly serve the Armenian treats is gratitude enough. This year the event was sold out with over 25 youth participating and over $700 dollars raised for the Church. The youth are already looking forward to next year.
Holy Friday – Washing of the feet ceremony and the burial service of our Lord Jesus Christ held on the same day by the parish priest Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian, with the presence of H.E. Bishop Bagrat Galstanian, primate of the Armenian Church Diocese of Canada, accompanying by Deacon Ivan Gyadyan and Levon Petrossyan. Following the ceremonies Der Myron delivered the sermon and also welcomed Bishop Galstanian. The primate delivered an inspiring message to those present.
Holy Saturday – Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian was the celebrant of the Divine Liturgy. Following the Liturgy a Requiem Service was conducted by Der Myron for the victims of the Armenian Genocide at George’s square Veterans’ memorial in Oakville.
