The Ottawa Armenian community celebrated Palm Sunday, the last Sunday of Lent and the beginning of the Easter Holy Week, on Sunday April 17. Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian celebrated the Divine Liturgy, marking Christ’s entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of the holiest period in our Church calendar.
As is the tradition, the young children of the community were invited to take part in the symbolic palm ceremony. They were gathered in front of the alter, carrying palms and lit candles entwined with flowers and the joy and pride on their faces was visible to all. The choir and the faithful sang traditional hymns of celebration providing a very touching and memorable remembrance for all.
Following the Church service, the faithful were invited for fellowship hour hosted by the Parish Council, and all the volunteers who help to provide the traditional Armenian delicacies for the dessert and coffee table. The community always enjoys this opportunity to meet and greet and share time together.
