On Sunday, February 20, 2011 the feast of St. Sarkis the Warrior and His Companions was marked at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Cathedral of Montreal. Reverend Father Vazgen Boyajyan, Pastor celebrated the Holy Divine Liturgy presided by His Eminence Bishop Bagrat Galstanian.
On the feast day of St Sarkis, who is considered to be the Saint for the Youth, our parishes across Canada hold a special prayer service and blessing ceremony for newly engaged and. newly married couples in our communities.
According to the Church tradition, new couples are invited on this special occasion, to attend the Holy Badarak and receive Holy Communion. Following the Divine Liturgy the new couples holding lit candles, approach the Holy Altar in a procession, to receive the blessing of the Church.
This year, Bishop Bagrat Galstanian congratulated the young couples on this special day and asked Almighty God to grant them peace and celestial blessings throughout their lives.
Following the Church ceremony, the Parish Council hosted a reception in honor of the young couples at the Vatche Hovsepian Hall of the Cathedral.
