Camp Ararat Armenian Youth Summer camp has been operating under The Canadian Diocese of the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church since 2004. Its mission is to provide an environment where Canadian Armenian youth from across the diocese can experience Christian faith and Armenian heritage in a fun, safe and educational setting while developing skills in fellowship and service to the church and community.
Under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimyan and the Diocesan Council, Camp Ararat’s Board of Directors, alongside the appointed camp clergy, works tirelessly to welcome all campers of various ages, interested in attending the week long retreat. Equally important are the many counsellors who volunteer their week to mentor the younger generation and give back to their beloved Camp Ararat. This year’s Board of Directors include: His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian – Primate, Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian – Camp Clergy, Ani Altounian – Executive Director, Gina Hill – Advisor, Talia Kalender – Secretary, Eliz Kaltakjian – Advisor, Arpi Kurkjian – Camp Director, Aris Kurkjian – Treasurer, Sahag Sildiryan – Advisor.
Camp Ararat has evolved its program to suit four different age categories. The two youngest groups Pokr and Medz Masis include campers ages 8 to 13, while those in Artsakh, aged 14-15, participate in the Camp Ararat Challenge for the week. The fourth and final group of campers are the aspiring counsellors-in-training, aged 16-18, who spend the week honing their leadership and organizational skills.
